[Movie] A Documentary Film About Mexico’s Rap Scenes
Somos Lengua is a documentary on the practice and process of rap in Mexico. The goal was to portray this art as the way of thinking and way of life. To be able to show the satisfaction people gain by listening to bars flowing on a beat. The ultimate expression of a culture is locked within it’s language and there is no other more direct, most powerful use of modern day language than rap.
With Somos Lengua Mexican director Kyzza Terrazas and producer Carlos Sosa traveled across Mexico and interviews a variety of hip-hop artist. The result is this engaging documentary called “Somos Lengua” which is set to be released in 2016. The film is now in post-production and is said that will be a nice surprise the music industry and will show that the state of Hip Hop in Mexico is very much healthy.
Somos Lengua was filmed in the Estado de Mexico, Torreon, Coahuila, Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Aguascalientes and Gomez Palacio, Durango, which are the most important cities of Mexico’s rap scene. In fact, Gomez Palacio, Durango is considered as the Mexican cradle of the genre. The film also counts with Feli Dávalos as consultant. In a post facebook post Feli explained that unfortunately not everyone who is anyone in Mexico’s rap scene is featured on the film and that likewise, not everyone who is in the film is someone. Some of those who make appearances are Eptos Uno, Aleman, Caballeros del Plan G, Mike Diaz, Sekreto, Tocadiscos Trez, Rabia Rivera, Ximbo, Jazzy P, MC Luka and many more.
