History has a funny way of repeating it’s self and music is far from an exception to that.  Now the Spanish and bilingual Hip Hop movement in the US is once again gaining ground and at the forefront of the Bay Area’s local movement are Los Rakas. Raka Rich and Raka Dun are cousins of  panamanian descent and having been working worked to build a movement from their hometown of Oakland, CA

The group got it’s start by producing and releasing mix tapes as well as touring with some of the biggest names in Hip Hop“El Negrito Dun Dun y Ricardo” is Los Raka’s 5th effort, but officially their debut album.  The album is split into two voices or sides. A Raka Rich side and Dum side. There could be many reasons as to why Los Rakas would spilt their debut album into two sides, much like an old school Hip Hop mix tapes which perhaps pays honor to how the due got started?

There is a lot to be excited for with “El Negrito Dun Dun y Ricardo.”  Not only does the album balance out a perfect A blend of hip-hop, 90s reminiscent 90’s Hip Hop, but also pays tribute to the electronic and dance scenes that has already been huge in the San Francisco Bay Area.   I was partially surprised to find that the first single off a debut album that’s backed by Universal Music was “Sueño Americano”  Which by today’s commercial music standards is considered to be a raw Hip Hop cut.  I am very pleased to find that the song was selected to be the first the single as there is huge vacancy with Spanish Hip Hop in commercial outlets in the United States at the moment.
