[Hip Hop En Español] What Would A 2016 Control Machete Reunion Tour Sound Like?
Yesterday afternoon ex Control Machete DJ and producer Toy Selectah teased fans with the idea of all three original members of Control Machete doing shows again. Toy shared a picture recent of a reunion of Pato Machete, Fermin IV and Toy Selectah that was made possible thanks to Cesaritual, a tattoo artist from Monterrey, Mexico and owner of the local Ritual Tattoo Shop, also located in Monterrey. The post instantly created a buzz on Toy’s social media pages with fans replying with excitement at just the thought of being able to see Control Machete performing on stage again.
Even if in past occasions like the Vive Latino 2014, where Fermin joined Pato on stage to perform a few of the classic Control Machete songs for the lifetime fans. When asked time and time again Fermin’s answer to the question of a formal Control Machete reunion, has always been no, every single time. Fermin replies that he has left Control Machete in his past and that he is in a different place in his life now. This is understandable, it’s been over 15 years and it would only make sense that all three former members the group are in a different place of their life’s. None the less there is no doubt that mark that Control Machete made in modern Latin music creating a huge impact on what pop culture is in Latin America.
I really believe that it could be possible for Fermin to be able to do a tour with Control Machete without compromising one lifestyle for the other. This would work like how Run of Run DMC continued being part of Run DMC long after be became a preacher. Rev Run has gone and continued to work and record music with other non Christian artist. As was the case of solo hit single from Bone Thugs N Harmony’s Flesh-N-Bone “World So Cruel”. Rev Run is a perfect example of what Fermin IV could be, by balancing out being a Christian preacher and still being the rapper touring and performing his music for the fans that grow up with him.
The truth of the matter is that it’s been 16 years since the last time all three Machete’s have worked together and they’re all in different places of their life’s now. They have their families, they have developed solo careers, some with music and others without music. The point that I am trying to make is that it would completely understandable that if a Control Machete reunion was to happen, that their music would be very different from the late 90’s. Both musically and lyrically. Their music would more likely be reflective of their life experiences since the group disband and all three have grown and matured just like us, the fans have.
I started asking myself, what would a Control Machete tour sound like in 2016? Looking at their track listing I have put together a list of classic Control Machete songs that could work for a new tour that I believe would make all three members comfortable performing while still making a reunion enjoyable enough for the longtime fans to feel like they got their tickets worth.
