Tempo has been on a roll knocking out singles and doing shows non-stop. This week he just released three new cuts simultaneously .”It’s Movie Time”, “Rumores” and  remix of “Gatilleros” with Tito El Bambino, Cosculluela, Arcangel, Tempo, Farruko, J Alvarez among others. The release of new music comes a series of show date in with the Dominican Republic and on the  US’s East Coast. All this comes after releasing the single “Guerrero Enterno” a little over a month ago in which Tempo pours out his heart and says goodbye to his late friend and rapper Mexicano 777 who lost his battle to cancer on July 23rd, 2015. The song also features Mexicano on the hook.

I first discovered Tempo in the later half of the 90’s as I was seeking more Spanish Hip Hop records to fill in on my radio show on 90.5, KSJS back in San Jose, CA. My mom use to work for the largest national Latin music retail chain as regional manager for the west and mid west stores. She was always traveling and at music events. One of the perks in the fact that she always bring home promotional copies of albums, compilations and singles that labels and distributors would mail her. One of those albums was a Tempo album. To be honest, the production was nowhere as near as great as the Control Machete, Tiro de Gracia or Sindicato Argentino del Hip Hop albums that were being released at the time, but Tempo had lyrics for sure.

So, what sets Tempo apart from other Spanish greats of his time?  The fact that Tempo has maintained its position as one of the most popular performers of urban music, picking up just where he left off from during his 14 year absence. Throughout his musical career, Tempo has received serval important awards including a Paoli Awards and a Latin Grammy nomination in 2009 for best long video documentary which also includes a historic collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra. Today, Tempo is working on his seventh album entitled “Freedom”.  After more than 12 years of being away from the stage he jumped front and center and did his return to a concert on May 17, 2014 at the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot in Puerto Rico.
